Cycling, Mountain Biking & Walks

THE BREATHTAKING scenery surrounding Yew Tree Cottage is the perfect backdrop for cycling and walks. Gently rolling countryside, pretty villages, woodland and historic landmarks and not to mention the endless pubs that will tempt you to stop off along the way!

Mountain Biking and Road Riding:  Yew Tree Cottage is in the midst of some of the UK's greatest cycling territory. There are mountain biking tracks and trails that start on our very doorstep, and just a short drive away is the superb Dalby Forest which hosted the UK leg of the MTB World Championships in 2010. Dalby Forest has over 1000km's of tracks from easily family routes to epic red graded wilderness challenges. And if you prefer more on-road cycling, no problem. Yew Tree Cottage is on some of the most popular road cycling routes, infact the 2009 Tour of Britain practically passed by our door. On weekends teams of cyclists enjoying the fresh air and uncongested roads are a frequent site through the village.

Walking:  For lovers of the outdoors, Yew Tree Cottage is set amidst a patchwork of beautiful landscapes, each with its unique charm. There are superb walks in the Yorkshire Wolds behind the cottage and the Howardanian Hills in which it is set. The North Yorkshire Moors and the coast are all within easy reach and both magnets for walkers and ramblers. Our favourites are a little closer to the cottage - Kirkham Priory over the River Derwent, The Four Churches Walk, the History and Habitats Walk through Hovingham and Welburn. And plenty of pubs along the way.
