The House Designed by Sir John Vanbrugh for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle, its creation spanned the lifetime of three Earls and numerous craftsmen. Vanbrugh's design evolved into a Baroque structure with two symmetrical wings projecting to either side of a north-south axis.

The Gardens Relax amid idyllic gardens, enjoy woodland and lakeside walks, and let off steam on the adventure playground. Castle Howard has extensive and diverse gardens. The house is prominently situated on a ridge and this was exploited to create a stunning English landscape park.
