Equine & Racing
IN TIMES PAST it was said a Yorkshireman was nothing without his horse. Its sentiment is still very visible today on Yew Tree Cottage's doorstep.
There are plenty of equestrian activities to satisfy your passion right here.
Horse Racing:
North Yorkshire has some of the country's finest professional racing. York, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby, and Beverley are all less than half an hour's travel from
Yew Tree Cottage, and Doncaster, Catterick and Redcar are easy to reach too. Many leading trainers and jockeys work around Malton, so it is not unusual on a
morning to see them heading out along the roads and lanes to their gallops.
Point-to-Point or Steeplechasing:
Enjoy the best of amateur horseracing, run typically three miles over fences, across farmland. It's a real family event and opportunity to mingle with those whose
lifestyles revolve around country life, from the Hunt Master to the local farmers. The Middleton Hunt Point-to-Point runs every year around
April at Whitwell-on-the-Hill, which is just down the road from Yew Tree Cottage. York, Sherrif Hutton and Duncombe Park point-to-point races are also an easy distance.
Horse Riding:
There are a steady stream of people coming to North Yorkshire to learn to ride. Yew Tree Cottage is surrounded by perfect country for riding out.
Langton and Scrayingham Riding Schools are just a few minutes drive away, and offer adults and children of all levels lessons and hacks, treks
and can even schedule pub rides which are a lot of fun!
